Scooters come in many different shapes and sizes, and are meant for different purposes too. That’s why when we think of a scooter store, we’d be separated into different groups as to what kind of scooter we are thinking of. In contrast to knowing what it means when someone asks “Want to go to the grocery store?” but when asked about a scooter store, we may wonder just what the person is talking about.

Interest in scooter may be for joy rides, to get around while disabled, and to help with long walks. Depending on your need, you’ll want to know what kinds of scooter stores are available to you as a consumer so that you can choose the right one for your needs.

Otherwise, you may find yourself running around town just to find that the stores you visit don’t offer the products that you had in mind.

Two Kinds

There are 2 major kinds of scooters when it comes to the kind of scooters that are available on the market today.

Scooters for handicapped and older people or people who have trouble getting around on there own are very popular today, so you can find numerous scooter stores that offer only this type of scooter. These kinds of scooters are not the kind that are drivable on the road, in fact they move slowly, usually about walking speed, and have 3 or 4 wheels with a big seat and a basket in front to hold groceries or what have you.

You’ll find that most are electric, and some can be plugged into a power source overnight in order to regain energy for the next day’s use. You won’t have to worry about gas or insurance or other costly investments when it comes to owning a scooter like this, and you can usually find reasonable prices for new and used models. These kinds of scooter stores will place advertisements that are geared toward senior citizens, but people of all ages find reasons to own one. Broken bones, back problems and childhood mobility problems are such a few.

Scooters meant to travel on roads are the other major kind of scooter available at stores in the marketplace today. These scooters usually get up to about 35 miles per hour, so they are not suitable for freeways and highways. However, they are useful for rural areas and towns when it comes to single people or teenagers getting around.

If you opt for a moped instead of a scooter at the store, you won’t even need a license to drive it in many states. This is because the horsepower in a moped is half as much as that of a scooter, making it possible to go no faster than 30 miles per hour. This means young teens and people who cannot get driver’s licenses can have a means to get around! You can even find “green” mopeds and scooters that offer the opportunity to own transportation without the hassles of gas. Just plug it in at night, and drive up to a total of 30 miles the next day. Needless to say, moped and scooter stores can be fun just to browse, and they can be found in most major cities as well as online.

If you have a deep love for scooters, then you would probably have heard of, if not also owned a Vespa scooter that for more than sixty years has been one of the best scooters available anywhere on the planet. Its origins of course takes one to Italy where the Vespa scooter was manufactured with a view to replacing bicycles as an affordable means of transport.

For those who own an old Vespa scooter, the need to find scooter parts for it must indeed be urgent, especially as keeping this vintage scooter, and indeed any other type of scooter, in fine working condition will have you frequently heading to a garage or spare parts dealer looking for appropriate scooter parts to replace old and worn out as well as defective ones.

Performance And Non-Performance Parts

Broadly speaking, scooter parts can be categorized as performance parts and non-performance parts. Among the performance scooter parts there are motors that come in a number of wattages as well as drive types which can even be chain or belt drive. Furthermore, motors can be mounted in different ways including the bracket mount and also the band mount.

Sometimes, you may even require replacing scooter parts in order to improve the performance of the scooter and not just to replace worn out and defective parts. Hence, by increasing a motor’s wattage you can get your scooter to go faster as well as improves torque and your scooter will also perform better on inclines and when climbing hills. When you increase the wattage, you will also need to change another scooter part and that is to replace the motor’s belt with a chain because belts will easily wear out when used with motors of higher wattage.

Another common scooter part is the wheel that are generally driven by a belt, though you can also look for wheels driven by chains and by replacing the belt with a chain you will be able to complement a higher wattage motor that you have chosen for your scooter. Also, you may want to change the number of teeth on your rear sprocket with either a sixty-four-tooth sprocket or one that has eighty teeth and if you choose the former, you can expect your scooter to go about a quarter faster as compared with other types of sprockets.

Even batteries are very important scooter parts that must be able to produce sufficient power for your scooter and so you need to look for a battery that provides sufficient amperage so that the performance of your scooter is not adversely affected.

What’s more, when choosing scooter parts it is worth remembering that there are a few factors that each have an effect on the overall performance of your scooter and they include things such as the temperature outside, the condition of the road surface, operating environment as well as quality of the battery and motor winding and a whole lot more.

If you choose the parts while keeping these other factors in mind you should be able to find the appropriate part and thus get optimum performance.

The Moped scooter is a cross between a motorcycle and a bicycle and this is more evident when looking at the history of the scooter.

During its early days, the moped scooter was really a bicycle with a small engine attached. As people were experimenting with not only making horse drawn coaches into an automobile, scooters were also being experimented with, as some of the early models can be dated as far back as 1886. This evolution occurred at the same time as engines were being developed and made into cars and most of the focus was on that development so during this time period the scooter was more of an after thought.

Of course, the engine size had to be scaled back in order to accommodate the size of a bicycle and pedals, gears and brakes all had to be adjusted accordingly. This process took time and was not always a popular choice for consumers to consider.

After World War I the production of the cousin to the moped scooter, the motorcycle was in big demand in Europe. The motorcycle had been used during World War I and was economical for the area and many consumers were realizing the benefits of a motorcycle, but the scooter was not far behind.

However, after World War II, the moped scooter became a more feasible mode of transportation and the production surged in Europe during this time period. Most of these early models had a 50cc gasoline tanks and were 2 speed equipped.

The moped scooter continued to grow in popularity and by the 1960’s was seen all over Europe and Asia. They continued to evolve and the engines became more efficient and were able to go faster, but still unable to compete with the motorcycle. The moped scooter was however able to maneuver into areas around cities that motorcycles were not, giving it an edge in the market of big cities.

The Future Of The Moped Scooter

With gas prices soaring, and the abundance of fossil fuels diminishing, the moped scooter looks to have a bright future. Not only are manufactures looking into developing electrical scooters, just the traditional scooter can save a consumer on gas and help the environment with lower emissions than cars.

The moped scooter is a survivor that many are now taking another look at. With advances in technology continuing to influence the development of more efficient transportation, the moped scooter is sure to be on the forefront of this trend.

Day to day life can be difficult for many people with disabilities. It is important to be able to maintain as much independence as possible, and often one way to do this is by having a heavy duty scooter. A heavy duty scooter can make getting from place to place easier, giving a person the ability of still taking care of daily errands and jobs.

A manual wheelchair is often used by individuals too, and can be a good choice. When evaluating whether a wheelchair or a heavy duty scooter is the right choice, make sure to consult with physical therapists and your medical team as they may have insights into which would work better for a particular lifestyle.

What A Heavy Duty Scooter Is Like

A heavy duty scooter can come with three wheels or four, and they often have baskets or other carrying devices on them. The chair can also look different depending on the heavy duty scooter, some have very high backs whiled others are lower. This of course depends on the person own preference. Different seats can be purchased in order to change them, so that a person can have different seats.

A heavy duty scooter has the capabilities of going up and over curbs. This is of course, a necessity for many that use the scooter on a daily basis. The ability of the heavy duty scooter to maneuver in tight spaces varies on the model. This is something that should be considered when looking at a particular scooter’s capabilities. Depending on where a heavy duty scooter is going to be used, a model that can turn sharply and move within a confined space may be necessary and there are models that have that ability.

A heavy duty scooter also can come with the ability to hold up to five hundred pounds in weight. Not all scooters are built to carry that weight, so it is important to find out how much weight each different model is capable of carrying.

Most heavy duty scooters are somewhat bulky and do weigh quite a bit. It is something to consider when looking at the different models, as some do come with the ability to be taken apart quickly and then re-assembled. This can make transporting them easier, or a lift may need to be purchased to place the scooter into a vehicle.

A heavy duty scooter can be a great option for those that need reliability in transportation on a daily basis.

Buying a mobility scooter is a bit like buying a very little motorcycle. You can’t just get the motorcycle and that’s it with being able to get the most out of it. You need a helmet, gloves, goggles and jacket, at least. Although you won’t need those for a mobility scooter (not unless you strap a jet engine to it), there are still some scooter accessories that you will need.

Batteries

The most essential mobility scooter accessories you will ever need are batteries to recharge your scooter every night (or day, whichever is more convenient for you). Unfortunately, mobility scooters are not powered by huge hamsters on treadmills. Perhaps one day they will be powered by huge hamsters on treadmills, but until that day, they are powered by electricity. You will get nowhere fast if you don’t get a battery.

Covers And Canopies

One of the ways you can keep your scooter clean and protect it somewhat from the weather (even if stored in a garage) is to get a scooter cover. These aren’t vitally essential scooter accessories, but they can certainly help protect your very expensive of vital equipment. Another scooter accessory is the canopy, which looks like a little umbrella over your head. This helps keep you in the shade on a hot day.

Cushion Covers

Think about all of the work your cushion is going to do for you. It’s going to wear out, sooner rather than later. You can help keep it looking nice and put your own individual stamp on your mobility scooter by putting on cushion covers. They work the same way seat covers work; they usually just slip on. They come in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

Pouches And Holders

Not all mobility scooters come with a little basket on the front. And, even if you have one, it might not be enough for a day’s errands. You can carry more with scooter accessories designed to fit on wheelchairs and mobility scooters called packs, pouches or holders. Sometimes they are strapped onto the back of the scooter or hang off of the frame. You don’t want one that hangs underneath the scooter – that’s just for wheelchairs.

Is This Stuff Covered By Medicare?

Scooter accessories are not covered by Medicare or most health insurance companies. Even the batteries are generally not covered. Medicare and the health insurance industry does not consider scooter accessories to be essential to survival. However, even if you bought something from all of the categories mentioned above, they still will be less than half of what your scooter cost.

The scooter is one of the most popular vehicles in the world, largely in part to its mobility, ease, and convenience. Scooters are also very inexpensive, especially when compared to its counterparts on the market these days. If you are interested in getting a scooter, you may be overwhelmed at first by the multitude of options that are available to you.

As with any other vehicle however, there are certain makes and models of scooter that stand out from the crowd, and which are going to be a much worthier buy.

50cc Sports Scooter

The 50cc sports scooter from Direct Bikes is a fan favorite, and it is really no wonder. It is not only fun to drive but great to look at, and suitable for men and women with its universal design. The sporty, sleek lines and features such as sports-styled exhaust and brakes make this 50cc scooter anything but ordinary.

This scooter has a cutting edge 4 stroke engine and great performance, which makes it the perfect vehicle whether you are taking it to the supermarket or for a drive out in the wilderness. It is great for zipping around and also affordable, making it accessible to the average consumer.

125cc Tommy Scooter

Another favorite scooter is also available from Direct Bikes. Streamlined, aerodynamic good looks make this bike an all time classic, and it is great for zipping around the city, cruising in the park, and is dynamic along country roads.

It is also available in a variety of colors which means you can personalize it to your delight. It features a 125cc high performance 4 stroke engine, 12 month warranty, fully automatic, electric start, telescopic sports suspension, top speed of 65mph, and comes registered for road use.

Honda Helix

For a real treat there is the Honda Helix. It has really never made more sense to own a scooter then when it comes to this model, what with its gas-sipping, 80cc four-stroke engine and fully automatic transmission. It is fuel-efficient and user-friendly, and the comfortable seating means that you can ride for hours without getting sore.

This will definitely be a great purchase, but make sure that you take the time to choose a scooter that is going to be perfectly suited to you and your needs. There are so many different makes and models available that you are sure to find one that is just right and, of course, which works with your budget.

Gas prices in your area have probably recently hit the three, four or even five dollar per gallon ranges. Simply fueling up your car probably can run you fifty dollars or more, easily. If you’re tired of tanking up your tank, it might be time to consider a gas powered scooter. These babies can easily satisfy your transportation needs and still be gentle on your pocketbook and the environment.

Scooters: The Best Option?

There is a reason that gas powered scooters are the standard for urban transportation in so many areas of the world. With many high-powered engines available, many have found a gas powered scooter that fits their needs. Do you live in a medium sized to big city, where parking is commonly an issue? What if all you had to do is find a space literally the size of a coffee table? Imagine reducing the stress of big-city living by this simple gesture. Are you paranoid about parallel parking? A gas powered scooter could fix your woes.

Gassing Up A Gas Powered Scooter

Putting gas in your scooter is generally about a two-minute affair. Many of them hold only a few gallons, with some pretty outstanding fuel mpg ratings to go along with their tiny tanks. While there are electric and gas powered scooters, gas is by far the more popular way to go the world over. It can be very inconvenient to find a place to plug in an electric scooter, and they take time to charge.

Some scooters take a mix of oil and gasoline. Be aware, however, that local laws may not permit this kind of engine in a gas powered scooter. The EPA has made laws about the kind of emissions even fuel-efficient scooters can produce, and luckily, major scooter producers like China largely heed these standards with commonly sold scooters.

Gas powered scooters are available in two and four stroke models. The four stroke models are generally what are mandated by environmental laws, they’re heavier, and have slightly less zip but are friendlier to the environment. Even so, it is not uncommon for a gas powered scooter to get well over fifty miles per gallon.

Scooter Safety

As with all moving vehicles, it’s important to be smart about driving one. This includes proper documentation and licensing, and protective gear. Buy a helmet, protective jacket and pants and wear them. You may want to go ala easy rider with just a t-shirt, but you can get quite a road rash even at low speeds.

Razor scooters had a brief heyday recently when their Razor kick series model took off in urban centers and colleges across the country. Slim, with light parts, this Razor scooter was adopted by scores of people looking for a cheap alternative to cars with some of the exercise opportunity of biking. With a fold-up design, the Razor kick series proved popular for commuters across the country that could glide along the surface streets and hop on the subway at a moment’s notice.

When you think of scooters a handy mode of transportation hardly comes to mind. However you would be wrong. The Razor electric scooter is designed so that you can use it for short distances that are just a little too far for walking and still too short to warrant the use of a car.

In this day and age when everyone is trying to do his or her bit for the environment the Razor electric scooter is the perfect way to get around. It is an eco-friendly way of getting around as well as an affordable one.

Environmentally Friendly

Unlike other vehicles that use gasoline to power their engines the Razor electric scooter uses electricity, as the name would suggest. This means that you do not contribute to carbon monoxide emissions and are doing your small part in helping to preserve the environment.

All you need to power your Razor electric scooter is plug it into a power outlet and let it charge. Besides helping the environment you could significantly cut down your fuel bills. By using your Razor electric scooter for the short distances that you would normally use your car for you can save gas money. Reserve your car for long distances.

Kid Friendly

A Razor electric scooter is very easy to use. It has a wide enough platform for an adult to stand comfortably on. At the same time it is easy enough to maneuver that a child could use it with no problems. In fact children would most probably find it easiest to use it as they have a greater sense of balance and agility.

This is great for kids who now have a little more freedom and can use scooters to visit friends, go to the grocery store or run small errands for busy parents. As long as children are given guidelines about how and where to use the Razor electric scooter this is a very safe vehicle for them to operate.

Just Plain Fun

Besides all the practicalities these scooters are just plain fun to use. They are easy to stow away and can be brought on vacation. Coasting along a boardwalk or city pavements is a great way to see things and enjoy new surroundings. Racing on these things is also highly addictive and will have the whole family competing and dying for a turn. So what are you waiting for? Go out and get one before you miss out anymore.
